Efudex

Efudex, also known as Flurouracil, is part of a group of medications called antineoplastics and is used topically to help with a skin cancer known as superficial basal cell carcinoma. Efudex can also be used to treat a skin condition called actinic keratosis, described as growths that are horny, red and wart like which can lead to skin cancer. The medicine helps by killing the abnormal cells which cause the cancer and skin conditions.

You should apply Efudrex with a cotton swab (anything non metal) and while using gloves. It should be applied to the whole affected area twice a day in a thin layer. Wash your hands with soap and water afterwards. Avoid contact with eyes, nose mouth and other areas where treatment should not be placed.

The medication will cause severe inflammation and irritation but application should be continued for the duration of prescription which will usually be from 2 to 4 weeks. The irritation and inflammation is needed for the medication to work.

Efudrex should not be used if you are:
