Seroquel

Seroquel, also known as quetiapine, is from a group of medications called antipsychotics and they help with the treatment of symptoms related to schizophrenia or manic episodes related to bipolar disorder. It works by changing the actions of chemicals in the brain called neurotransmitters. It should not be used when the condition is related to dementia.

You should take each dose with a full glass of water. Swallow the pill whole and do not crush, chew or break the slow release tablet. If a dosage is missed, take it as soon as remembered or if you are close to the next dosage, skip the missed one and continue on the regular schedule. Never take two doses at the same time.

Seroquel should not be used if you are:

  • Allergic to quetiapine or any of the ingredients in Seroquel

Talk to you doctor before taking it if you have or had:

  • liver or kidney disease
  • heart disease, high blood pressure, heart rhythm problems
  • a history of heart attack or stroke
  • a thyroid disorder
  • seizures or epilepsy
  • high cholesterol or triglycerides

  • stuffy or runny nose
  • upset stomach
  • weight gain
  • dizziness
  • drowsiness

  • feeling of fast or irregular heartbeat

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of these very rare side effects:

  • shuffling walk
  • skin rash
  • slowed movements
  • stiffness of arms or legs
  • swelling of feet or lower legs
  • trembling and shaking of hands and fingers
  • trouble in breathing, speaking, or swallowing
  • fainting
  • convulsions (seizures)
  • difficult or unusually fast breathing
  • high fever
  • increased sweating
  • loss of bladder control
  • severe muscle stiffness
  • unusually pale skin
  • unusual tiredness or weakness
  • fever, chills, muscle aches, or sore throat
  • loss of balance control
  • mask-like face
