Sabril

Sabril, also known as Vigabatrin, comes from the group of medications called anticonvulsants and is used to help treat and manage seizures. It does this by increasing the amount of GABA, a chemical found in the brain. This reduces the likelihood of an onset of an epileptic seizure. It can also be used in the treatment of infantile spasms, or West syndrome.

Be sure to talk with a doctor before starting any dose. For adults, the dose is usually 1000mg a day to start and may be adjusted to your response to the medication. For children, it might start out at 40 mg per kg of body weight the child has. The dose should be no more than 100 mg per kg of body weight. If a dosage is missed, take it as soon as remembered or if you are close to the next dosage, skip the missed one and continue on the regular schedule. Never take two doses at the same time.

Sabril should not be used if you are:

• may be pregnant
• breast-feeding
• allergic to vigabatrin or any of the ingredients in Sabril
• currently taking medications that could be toxic to the retina of the eye
