Flovent

Flovent, also known as Fluticasone, is from a group of medications called inhaled corticosteroids, which help reduce symptoms of asthma and avert asthma attacks. It also helps with allergic rhinitis or allergic reaction to hay fever or other seasonal attacks. Flovent works by decreasing inflammation in the lungs causing the airways to open. This medication clears you nasal passages giving you temporary relief and easier breathing. You should always blow your nose before using this product.

A regular daily dose for 2 weeks or longer is usually needed for this medicine to work and a reduction in asthma to come into effect. This drug is used to prevent attacks, not after they are already started. You should use a different medication for asthma attacks which have already commenced. A reliever inhaler works best for these instances which will provide immediate help.

Rinsing mouth after inhalation can help prevent hoarseness, throat irritation and infection. Dentures need to be cleaned after each dose or removed before.

Flovent should not be used if you are:

  • sensitive or allergic to Flovent or ingredients found in the medications mixture
  • using it for the primary treatment of status asthmaticus or other acute asthma conditions
  • a person with moderate to severe bronchiectasis
